Carpentier tried to define the term as an exclusive characteristic of the Latin American region. Magic Realism appeared as a critical term for the arts and it later extended to literature. Magic realism is the art of weaving magic into a story/setting where the magic itself is not questioned nor considered unusual. Garcia Marquez chose to employ this serious tone to make unbelievable ideas seems real, because it allows him to dispense with explanations and justifications.
