Catechesis should proceed from the historical context of divine revelation so as to present persons and events of the Old and New Testaments in the light of God's overall plan. It is this implicit theological principle that motivated the explicit creation of the literary pattern. This is to say that man has the natural reasoning process and power to come to God and be saved without the Scriptures. During the time of separation between the establishment of the marriage covenant and the coming of the bridegroom to take his bride, it was possible for the Jewish bride to commit adultery by giving herself to another man.20 In like manner it is possible for believers today to commit spiritual adultery against Christ before He returns to take His Church.
