Some of Michele Koons's party fished, catching at least one, but she did not, nor is she known to have handled any fish. Fish odors were no doubt prevalent in camp since a fish was cooked that night, and people had regular­ ly cooked fish at this camp throughout the summer. Several fishermen had surrendered strings of fish to an aggressive grizzly during the summer, very probably the same one involved in the August 13 attack on Michele Koons.
