Seismic Performance of Precast Concrete Segmental Bridges: Summary of Experimental Research on Segmentto-Segment Joints, (2009) PCI Journal, Vol. 54, No. 2, pp 116–142. This extensive research project showed that precast segmentally erected bridges can have excellent performance of the segment-to-segment joints in seismic zones. While cracks near joints will open during seismic motions, their deformation capacity is larger by an order of magnitude than the demands expected from the DBE. Cracks will completely close following the DBE.
